6 – Motivation & Showcase
Welcome to my motivation & showcase for the learning-route Ä6.
I’ve built this page to explain why I think Ä6 is right for me.
But I’m also going to show you what I could be doing at Ä6.
But before I start, what even is Ä6?
Ä6 is an innovative form of teaching at SintLucas.
Developed for maximum space to shape the learning process.
Here you decide which projects make or don’t make.
Or even where you study and how to divide your time.
It is about the way you learn and experiment with different media.
From media design, game design to music installations.
You can even set up your own business!
As described, Ä6 is a realistic approach to real life.
A place where freedom and frameworks are in balance.
Students are encouraged to seek knowledge themselves.
In this way they develop creative self-confidence and critical thinking skills.
“Learning does not stop at the door of SintLucas; it is a continuous process.”
Context determines the rules, where freedom and responsibility.
The desired result is central.
Ä6 students learn to regulate themselves and give meaning to their knowledge.
In short, they are studying design in the middle of real life.

“Mediavormgeving” vs. Ä6
Mediavormgeving, or Media Design is the name of my study.
Since I became familiar with Ä6, I have increasingly compared it to regular route.
These are the reasons why I think Ä6 suits me better than the regular route.
Studying & Learning: The regular route: relies on assignments with strict requirements.
This is not a huge problem, but it is something I struggle with a lot.
I find that I am almost constantly prevented from learning new things.
Fun assignments that are ruined by restrictions like:
“You may only use white, black & red” or: “You must use Behance to submit your –
– assignments you can no longer use your own website” are very frustrating to hear.
Or having to follow an introduction to software that I am already very proficient in.
The program is fun, but sometimes very demotivating for me.
In Ä6, I get to choose how, what, & with whom I want to learn, which suits me perfectly.
Schedule: I will soon be moving into my own apartment.
Since school often lasts until 5:00 PM, I cannot work afterwards.
This is because I can only start at 5:00 PM at the latest.
Since I also have to pay rent, utilities, etc. I need to work more.
The only days left in the regular route are the weekend.
Of course, I also want to be able to enjoy my weekend without having to work 20 hours.
Ä6 offers the option to organize Tue, Wed and Thu in a way that works best for me.
This gives me the option to combine school, internship and work without pressure.
Regular Media Design seems very difficult for me to complete for these reasons.
This could potentially be the difference between succeeding or failing the program.
There are even more reasons, but in short: Ä6 wins for me.

Freedom
One thing I have a lot of trouble with in the regular route are the limitations.
Assignments are issued with requirements that disrupt my development.
An example of this is the Speculative Design assignment.
This assignment started with “you will develop your own world”.
This idea was originally very challenging and fun, until the demands came.
Instead of developing an idea we came up with as a group, we had to leave this idea and roll a dice for different demands within the project.
This teaches someone to follow and work out a client’s assignment.
However, there is no client in this situation, only a teacher who judges me.
I understand that if I get a client’s assignment, I have to follow it.
However, a development assignment with limitations hinders me in my development.
Other assignments can also be annoying.
A good example is from the Digital Development.
Photoshop is a program that I should learn the last few weeks before this trade.
However, I have more than 8 years of experience with this program.
I am just wasting my time learning a different program.
In this block I want to show what I am capable of with more freedom.
